A new website is aimed at providing Aboriginal people with the benefits and risks of immunizations.
The National Aboriginal Health Organization has launched “getimmunized.ca”, which features videos on First Nations, Inuit and Metis perspectives on immunizing, as well as the three perspectives on health care in general.
NAHO launched the web site in conjunction with the federal department of First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Health Canada.
FNIHB says on-reserve First Nations have immunization rates 20% lower than the general population and suffer from higher rates of vaccine-preventable diseases.
It also says some of those diseases also result in more hospitalization for First Nations people versus the general population.
