Aboriginal Employment Dismal: Economics Expert

An expert in economics and Aboriginal social policy says years of progress concerning the Aboriginal labour market were erased in a single year because of the recession.
Eric Howe spoke yesterday at the opening on the national IANE conference in Saskatoon.
He says before the recession hit, there was over 60 per cent employment, but then it was all erased in 2009, with nearly one in seven Aboriginal people having lost their jobs.
Howe says this could spell economic disaster for Saskatchewan unless something is done about it.
He also says neighbouring Alberta and Manitoba would not be immune from such a disaster and should be concerned.
