Agreement Signed to Check for Medical Condition

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and Saskatoon Tribal Council have partnered with the Saskatoon health region and police to ensure anyone arrested by police will be checked over medically.
The accord was signed yesterday in Saskatoon.
FSIN Vice-Chief Morley Watson says the reason for making this agreement stems from past incidents where people were arrested and in fact needed medical attention.
Watson says the agreement means now if anyone is arrested, they will be checked to see if they have a medical condition and not assumed to just be intoxicated.
He thinks this will help improve relations between the police and Aboriginal people.
Watson says the ultimate goal is to have a wellness centre where people can get medical help.
