An Alberta chief doesn’t think much of the government’s oilsands policy.
Alan Adam heads up the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation.
He says for years the government has handed out oilsands leases without consulting the First Nation.
The chief argues that violates the duty to consult policy and could be grounds for a constitutional challenge.
The band recently lost a decision to the Court of Appeal over the issue prompting them to consider the Supreme Court.
