Saskatchewan’s Court of Appeal has restored the acquittal of a man from Southend.
Chris Okemau was charged in 2008 with carrying a weapon dangerous to the public.
He had stepped off his property and was confronting 4 men who had apparently assaulted his wife, when an RCMP constable, who saw what was going on, shot Okemau.
He was wounded but survived.
However, he ended up begin charged.
A provincial court judge acquitted Okemau; however, the crown was not happy with that decision and launched an appeal.
The acquittal was then overturned and a new trial ordered.
However, the court in Regina decided today to side with the original ruling, which found Okemau innocent of the charge.
