An organizer of the province’s largest Metis cultural celebration says being nominated for a Tourism Saskatchewan award will likely keep numbers up at this year’s event.

Back to Batoche has been nominated for Event of the Year in the Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence.

It’s up against the World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatoon as well as the 100th Anniversary Celebrations for the Roughriders.

Claire Belanger-Parker says last year more than 22,000 wristbands were distributed, and even though this year’s event won’t be as many days, she says they could easily see that many people again.

Other Aboriginal businesses up for awards include the Bear Claw Casino & Hotel for Business of the Year, and the Gold Eagle Lodge and SIGA are both nominated for the Human Resource Development Award.

The awards will be handed out on April 20th in Saskatoon.
