A band councillor from the Key First Nation charged in a prescription drug bust in the Yorkton area is facing new charges.

Police say 52-year-old Gerald Michael Papequash was originally arrested in early January, but more charges were laid last Thursday.

Yorkton RCMP Corporal Tim Schwartz says the charges include identity theft, identity fraud, double doctoring, possession of a large quantity of prescription pills for the purpose of trafficking and breach of undertaking.

Schwartz says the investigation centers around a certain type of prescription drug — painkillers.

Papequash and six other charged in the case are appearing in Yorkton Provincial Court today.

A total of 24 people ranging in age from 22-to-78 years of age are facing charges.
