Bill Should Help Those At Grassroots: AFN Chief

The Assembly of First Nations Chief says the focus of bill S-11 should be the desperate need for safe drinking water on First Nations.

National Chief Shawn Atleo was testifying before the Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples last night.

Atleo says there must be a balance between an inclusive partnership with First Nations regarding the process of the bill and the grassroots people who are most affected by it.

Atleo says the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples provides the framework for equal negotiations with the Federal Government.
