Call for Recount in Recent PBCN Election

A candidate in last week’s Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation election is calling for a recount.

Harold Linklater, who used to lead the band, says he filed his request the day after the vote took place.

Unofficial results showed Linklater losing to incumbent chief Darrell McCallum by nine votes.

Linklater says rules indicate a recount should happen automatically because the margin of victory was less than ten votes.

He says he wants to know what’s going on soon, because appeals are scheduled for next week.

Meantime, the chief electoral officer for the band, Ted J. Merasty, won’t say yet if a recount is being ordered.

However, he does say everything should be decided by tomorrow afternoon.

He says a memo will be sent out to the public and the candidates letting everyone know what’s going on.
