Cameco Seeking Approval To Divert Mine Water

Public comments are being accepted on a plan by Cameco to pump water into Waterbury Lake.
The lake is located near the Cigar Lake uranium mine.
Cameco wants to increase the mine’s ability to deal with flooding issues.
Under the current system, water from the mine goes into Aline Creek.
However, Cameco spokesman Gord Struthers says they will be able to deal with larger volumes of water if they can discharge water into the lake instead.
He adds they are hoping to begin constructing the pipeline for the project later this year.
