Charter Targets Substance Abuse At Workplaces

A charter for Healthy Lifestyles was signed at a meeting of the Northern Labour Market Committee in La Ronge yesterday.

The charter acknowledges that substance abuse leads to unhealthy behaviours and interrupts potential and participation in the workforce.

Committee co-chair Glen Strong says he has been involved with training programs that test participants for substances — and they are passing.

Northlands College regional director Joe Daigneault says the charter is created to work with other healthy lifestyle initiatives.

Daigneault says he proposed the idea of a charter because he was angry that there were so many young people committing suicide.

It was also announced yesterday that Cameco will begin testing new employees for substance abuse on July 1st.
