The War of 1812 will be a new focus of a renewed agreement between the Saskatoon Public Schools and the Whitecap Dakota First Nation.
The two renewed their agreement today, which has been in place since 1995.
Its purpose is to ensure a smooth transition for students graduating from Whitecap elementary school and attending school in the city.
Whitecap Chief Darcy Bear says originally, bi-centennial celebrations for the War of 1812 were just set for Ontario and Quebec.
He says he spoke to Heritage Canada because he says the event should be commemorated across the country, with which it agreed, and now events will be planned in Saskatchewan as well.
Bear says in addition to activities commemorating it, there will also be curriculum development around the War of 1812.
