A new study says Saskatchewan is about to feel a financial wallop from diabetes.
The Canadian Diabetes Association report the cost of treating the disease will shoot up over the next decade.
The association’s Michael Cloutier says 7 percent of Saskatchewan residents already have the disease and that will rise to 10 percent by 2020 unless something changes.
Cloutier says an aging demographic explains part of the surge along with the prevalence of diabetes in the Aboriginal community.
He says solutions to the crisis include healthier living and partnerships between government and the private sector.
