Feds Release Independent Water Assessment

The Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is pleased the federal government has released an independent national assessment of water systems on-reserve.
Chief Guy Lonechild says water quality has been an issue for many years.
Lonechild hasn’t seen the report yet but is calling for all the recommendations to be implemented.
He says the federal government needs to make investments in all First Nations here by providing training and certification to operators.
Lonechild would like to see Health Canada or Aboriginal Affairs provide water regulation and support on reserve.
He says First Nations should also look at their own water legislation as the federal government looks at passing legislation to ensure First Nations have the same protections for water quality that the rest of Canadians have.
