Fire Chief Speaks Out, Disapproves of Sentence

The La Ronge Fire Chief is speaking out about the sentence given to a man found responsible for the deaths of three people in an apartment fire.

Ron Pratt says he is providing a voice to the mother, father and baby who died in the May 2009 fire.

He has written a letter-to-the-editor that was published in a couple newspapers because he says the 18 month sentence given to Blake Norman, through a plea bargan, was inappropriate.

Pratt would like to see minimum sentences as well as elected judges and prosecutors.

Pratt says since he wrote that letter, he’s received numerous calls from people who agree with him.

He says nothing can bring back those who died, but says everyone agreeing the sentence was inappropriate has brought the community closer together and helped begin the healing.
