Fire Forces Hall Lake Evacuation

Four hundred forty residents of the Hall Lake reserve are temporarily calling La Ronge “home”.
The residents were evacuated there yesterday afternoon.
Richard Kent of the Prince Albert Grand Council says many of the evacuees are staying with friends and family.
However, some of them are lodged inside a community hall.
Kent says a small group of workers have been left inside the community to look after critical infrastructure.
He says the evacuees will stay put until they’re given the all clear.
The Hall fire, about an hour’s drive southwest of La Ronge, is only about five kilometres from homes there, a fire official says.
Steve Roberts, executive director of Wildfire Management, says crews are working to stop the 20-hectare fire from getting any bigger.
It’s not yet known when evacuees will be allowed to return.
