A program that helps those living with diabetes has been so successful that other programs are modelling themselves after it.
Fitness, Food and Fun aims to help the urban Aboriginal community in Saskatoon deal with diabetes through education on healthy eating and exercising.
Sheila Achilles, Director of Primary Care with the Saskatoon Health Region, says the program has grown to also include family members of those living with diabetes.
She says the program also uses peer leaders, which is people who have diabetes, and says it’s been really effective.
The program has reached several hundred people across the city as well as in northern Saskatchewan.
