About $2.6 million is being spent by the provincial government to upgrade the Hudson Bay Airport.

Paving work is being done on the runway, taxiways and aprons so the facility can accommodate large fire suppressant aircraft.

Ministry of Environment spokesperson Jeanette Krayetski says the move will improve firefighting capabilities in the region.

The re-paving at the Hudson Bay Airport is expected to be complete by mid-September.
