Saskatchewan Environment is reminding anglers that the ice fishing season ends on March 31st in the Central and Southern zones, and on April 15th in the Northern Zone.
Something new this year is the introduction of fixed opening season dates for the fishing season.
Conservation Officer Bonnie Greene says it’s an idea that had been discussed for a while.
Greene says ice fishing shacks in areas north of Highway 16 must be removed by March 31st.
Anglers are also responsible for removing any garbage or other waste products.
Greene says reports indicate the ice condition is still good across the north, and the main area of concern is the southeastern part of the province.
Anyone travelling on ice there should use extreme caution.
