The Department of Indian Affairs is encouraging Status Indians to collect their treaty annuity payment this year.
Many people don’t collect their $5 yearly payment, and INAC officials say $1.5 million is now being held in trust, in Saskatchewan alone.
Indian Affairs spokesperson Trevor Sutter says Treaty Days are being held on First Nations, and in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
Sutter says there are about 138,000 Status Indians eligible for annual treaty payments in Saskatchewan.
