La Ronge Doctors Charged With Conduct Violations

Two La Ronge doctors have been charged with unprofessional conduct by the College of Physicians and Nurses following two separate incidents.

The college charged Dr. Nolan Jansen after he pleaded guilty to possessing a kitchen knife for a purpose dangerous to the public peace in an incident involving another colleague that happened outside of work.

College spokesman Bryan Salte says Jansen was given a conditional discharge with three months probation.

Salte also says an allegation that Dr. Kanthan Covenden examined a female patient inappropriately was also investigated by the college.

Both doctors are still working.

Salte says, most of the time, doctors continue working while being investigated — although there are provisions that enable the College to suspend a doctor while he or she is being investigated.

He has been in discussions with the lawyers for both men and can’t say exactly when the matters will be dealt with.

However, the next college council meeting is in April.
