The person appointed to hear appeals in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s spring election says she’s not prepared to grant any hearings related to the matter.
Speaking in a letter, Chief Pauline Okemow of the Lucky Man First Nation says she has determined the appeal by chief candidate Henry McKenzie cannot be heard because it was not accompanied by an affidavit.
As for the appeal launched by council candidate Jude Ratt, who lost by one vote, Okemow says she’s not prepared to order a recount over it because she doesn’t think it’s necessary.
Okemow says she looked at a concern Ratt raised about the residency of a potential voter for him, but based on the evidence she didn’t feel a hearing was necessary.
Meanwhile, she writes that concerns over the electronic voting process is best dealt with by the band.
The chief also apologized for the delay in handling the appeals saying it was due to a death in her immediate family.
