Leadership Change In Montreal Lake

Voters at the Montreal Lake Cree Nation elected a new chief on Friday.

 

Edward Henderson, a former vice-chief with the Prince Albert Grand Council, defeated incumbent Roger Bird.

 

The other chief candidate, Conrad Smith-Bird, finished third in the voting.

 

Eight council positions were filled, including four by incumbents Jason Ballantyne, Arnold Naytowhow, Jarret Nelson and Jeff Badger.

 

New to the Montreal Lake band council are Dirk McDonald, Richie Bird, Darrel Naytowhow and Wanda Halkett-Bird.

 

The winners will serve three-year terms.
