More details are now known about an apparent “swarming” inside the Saskatchewan Penitentiary last week.
The Saskatchewan Penitentiary has returned to normal operations.
A lockdown, that had been in place for a week, was lifted at eight o’clock this morning.
Prison spokesman Darcy Begrand says three inmates were attacked around 10 p.m. Thursday night inside the medium-security unit of the jail.
He says at this point it appears the three were rushed by 17 others who were in the exercise yard and gym.
Begrand says they have already collared some of the instigators.
He adds it’s too early to say whether or not the incident is gang-related but says, “it sure points that way”.
The file has now been turned over to the RCMP.
