Man Charged with Assault, Uttering Threats

RCMP have identified a Saskatchewan man who is facing assault charges in an incident that saw him hospitalized with several stab wounds.

Twenty-eight-year-old Matthew Kurt Desnomie needed surgery and was hospitalized for several days after an incident in Balcarres on New Year’s Day.

Two women, aged 20 and 24, believed responsible for his injuries were arrested at the scene, but were eventually released.

At last word, Crown counsel was still deciding whether they should be charged.

Desnomie has been charged with two counts of assault and two counts of uttering threats.

He made his first court appearance in Yorkton yesterday.

Police say all of the people involved are known to each other.
