A Saskatoon man with a violent history has been sentenced as a dangerous offender following a vicious assault nearly five years ago.

Forty-seven-year-old Harry Dunsford is originally from Little Grand Rapids, Manitoba and grew up in a violent, alcoholic home.

He was first incarcerated at the age of 18 and spent much of the next 25 years behind bars.

In 2006 in Saskatoon, he attacked a woman, hitting her in the head twice with a beer bottle and then once with a sock that had a soap bar in it.

The victim was hospitalized for 10 days and required surgery to repair her right eye socket and surrounding bones and has permanent plates and screws.

Some of Dunsford’s previous convinctions include assault, sexual assault, forcible confinement and manslaughter.

With his dangerous offender status, Dunsford will be held in prison for an “indeterminant” amount of time.
