Metis Citizens Want Leaders to Get to Work

Some Metis citizens have tasked their leaders with moving forward on constitutional reform.

This past weekend, Metis people met in Saskatoon, after signing a petition calling for the meeting – the first time it has ever happened.

The meeting came a day after some area directors help a news conference expressing their unhappiness with the leadership.

Metis Nation Saskatchewan President Robert Doucette doesn’t believe the discontent amongst some Metis leaders will get in the way of getting the work done.

He says in the past, people haven’t been able to speak out for fear of repercussion, and believes the fact people can speak their minds now is a sign of a strong administration.

Motions were passed calling for an audit committee and Provincial Metis council meeting next month, as well as an annual general assembly within 90 days to deal with constitutional reform.
