Metis Constitution Reform Assembly Cancelled

A Metis Nation Special General Assembly that was set for this weekend has been cancelled.
This after calls from some provincial Metis council members that it shouldn’t happen because it was called for in a “unilateral and undemocratic way.”
The assembly was set to address constitutional reform packages that had been brought up at November’s MNLA and AGA.
At the time, the proposed changes were met with a great deal of opposition and a motion was passed to not make the changes.
PMC Member Helene Johnson says some members of the Metis Nation – Executive and those working in Inter-Governmental Affairs were trying to have this special assembly to deal with these reforms, and she says they don’t have the authority to call such a meeting.
John says if there are to be any reforms to the constitution, they need to strengthen it, and she says the proposed changes would have weakened it.
