Metis Group To Establish New Ec. Dev. Corporation

Representatives of Metis Nation – Saskatchewan Eastern Region 2 signed a business charter Wednesday in Melfort to create a new corporation.

They want to partner with businesses, in the mining and oil and gas sectors, for example.

MN-S Eastern Region 2 Executive Director Ryan Calder says they want the money and jobs that come with businesses.

But Calder says they also want to keep their political and business arms separate.

He says they hope to have the corporation set up by the end of summer.

The charter was devised with help from the Westcap Management BRIDG program.

Westcap spokesperson Julie Ann Wriston says the Metis region is making business decisions faster than other Aboriginal groups, because of its separation of politics from business.
