Mistawasis Elects New Chief

There is a new chief for the Mistawasis First Nation.

According to unofficial results, Norma Johnstone is the chief after defeating incumbent Cecil Head and three other challengers.

Johnstone received 202 votes with the next closest being Darryl Watson with 167.

Head received 156, Lori Johnstone-Clarke 108 and Leslie Pechawis 68.

There will be three new councillors as well: Debbie Watson, Derek Sanderson and Gail Badger.

They are joining three incumbent councillors: Christopher Pechawis, Melvin Watson and Lawrence Johnston.

The terms are for two years.
