Montreal Lake Partially Evacuates Due To Flooding

Around two hundred people have been evacuated from their homes on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.
The residents left Wednesday night after some culverts in the community couldn’t handle strong waterflows from a stream that flows into Montreal Lake.
Colin King of the ministry of public safety explains the evacuation was made because a road on the reserve had to be cut and a portion of the community became isolated.
Around 40 people are staying at a hotel in Prince Albert while the rest have gone to stay with family and friends.
It’s not known when they’ll be allowed back but officials say it could be at least a couple of days.
Meantime the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority says it does NOT expect to receive any substantial rainfall in La Ronge over the next four days.
