An FSIN Vice-Chief is calling for First Nations consultation regarding the regulations of the drinking water on First Nations.
Chief Lyle Whitefish testified at a senate committee meeting yesterday.
But Indian Affairs Minister John Duncan says that First Nations will be consulted after Bill S-11 has passed through Parliament.
Duncan says if the bill is passed, the government commits to work with First Nations during the regulatory development phase.
He says that regulations could take years to develop, and the bill must go ahead soon to save taxpayers’ dollars as well as protect the health of First Nations.
