A Muskeg First Nation woman who worked to preserve and promote the Cree language has left a lasting legacy, FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild says.

Freda Ahenakew passed away on the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation at age 79.

FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild says Ahenakew’s work made an impact on Canada as a whole.

A funeral and wake for Ahenakew were held earlier this week.
