Native Veterans Group Struggling With Deficit

The Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans Association is trying to dig itself out of a deficit.

Veteran Emile Highway provided an update of the association’s activities during the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations’ legislative assembly today.

Highway says the executive is working hard to reduce the deficit by the end of this fiscal year, but says they are “really struggling right now”.

He says most executive members are travelling on credit cards to try to keep their office open.

However, Highway says the association has accomplished a lot in the past couple of years — including producing a newsletter, improving membership structure and the launch of the speaker’s bureau.

Highway says the association has also received funding for gravemarkers for unmarked graves.

He asks anyone who knows of someone buried in an unmarked grave who served in the Canadian Forces to contact their office.
