A new board chairman is in place at the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority.
Ed Henderson, the chief of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation, is currently sitting in that position.
He was put in place after a possible conflict of interest surfaced with the old chairman – Kirk Goodtrack.
Henderson says it was Goodtrack himself who identified the potential problem and stepped back.
The Chief says he can’t reveal what the conflict is but explains the board is looking for an independent party to help them evaluate the situation.
FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild has publicly stated he believes Goodtrack’s removal is being motivated by politics.
However Henderson says this is not the case.
“No this is strictly a corporate governance issue for us and the current political environment at the FSIN has nothing to do with SIGA. We laid out our professional process and we’re dealing with it. What’s happening at the FSIN has nothing to do with SIGA.”
Henderson adds it’s business as usual.
