Northern educators have come up with a new action plan to help students get post secondary education at home, instead of having to go down south.
Two entities –- the Northern Teacher Education Program, known as NORTEP, and the Northern Professional Access College, known as NORPAC — have enabled students to take courses in the four-year Teacher Education Program, and up to three years of Arts and Science in the province’s north.
They are affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina.
Board members, students and educators recently assessed both programs to make sure they’re doing what northern residents want and need.
Executive director Herman Michell says one mandate they received was to reinforce northern culture in teacher education.
Michell says all those involved are confident the group’s new roadmap will create academically strong, successful students.
