Non-Confidence Motion On Horizon

It appears those who want FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild out of office are one step closer to making it happen.
Yesterday after a very lengthy discussion, chiefs at the spring legislative assembly voted to make changes to Section 60 of the Executive Act.
Now a closed session vote of 50 per cent plus one of the chiefs in attendance can bring about a vote of non-confidence.
George Gordon Chief Glenn Pratt did not want to see the changes happen.
He says there is a difference between passing a resolution that makes a strong statement versus kicking someone out of office.
He told the Assembly he could not support the motion if the intent in changing it meant that if 12 chiefs were in attendance on the last day, those chiefs could remove someone from office.
The resolution passed with 26 votes in favour.
Ten chiefs opposed and two abstained.
The matter was first raised by Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Tammy Cook-Searson as the agenda was being approved.
She wanted to know when the non-confidence motion would be put on the agenda.
English River Ralph Paul immediately spoke out against it, saying it only divides chiefs — adding not every chief agrees with it.
Paul went so far as to say if it came up, he would leave.
Lonechild called trying to remove him without taking the proper channels embarrassing.
He also called the discussion a waste of time and energy.
Lawyer Don Worme cautioned the chiefs to follow proper procedures.
He said 25 First Nations must supply the assembly clerk documents in favour of the petition.
Worme also said written documents must be attached, and a bond of $1000 must also be given to the assembly clerk.
Even if those conditions are met, he said the matter was likely head to court and he challenged the chiefs if that’s what they really wanted.
Worme added if the conditions are met, the clerk will provide written notification of a hearing that must be held in 30 days.
There is no word if or when such a vote would take place during day two of assembly.
