There is now an opportunity closer to home for northern Saskatchewan students to pursue a nursing degree.

The University of Saskatchewan and Northlands College are partnering to allow students to pursue a four-year Bachelor of Science in nursing through the college.

The first year of programming will begin this September.

This is the first time northern locations have been provided for students to earn a nursing degree.

Northlands College Chief Executive Officer Bill McLaughlin says the partnership will enable the college to address a “critical human resource need” of northern health sector employers.

He says it will lead to a higher degree of northern, primarily Aboriginal, trained professionals providing northern health care.
