One of Canada’s highest nursing awards has been presented to a woman with ties to northern Saskatchewan.

Tracy Daigneault is a nurse practitioner who spends much of her time on the Birch Narrows Dene Nation and in Turnor Lake.

On Friday, she was in Ottawa to accept the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch Award of Excellence in Nursing.

The award is given out every year to nurses who have worked to improve the lives of Aboriginal people in Canada.

Daigneault provides on-call services and prenatal work, and also helps out with immunization and chronic disease programs.

She says she is grateful for the welcome the people of Turnor Lake and Birch Narrows have shown her, and believes that if you treat people properly they will treat you with the same respect.
