PBCN Chief Candidate To Appeal Results

A candidate who ran in the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation election says he plans to appeal the results.

Harold Linklater was denied a recount by the chief electoral officer yesterday.

Linklater finished nine votes back of incumbent chief Darrell McCallum in last week’s election with 48 of the ballots being spoiled.

The electoral officer, Ted J. Merasty, said the reason why the recount was denied was because of rules in the election act which say only councillors’ votes can be recounted.

Linklater says he doesn’t buy that argument.

Linklater says he should be allowed to view the spoiled ballots and many other band members are telling him the same thing.
