A petition with 4,800 signatures was presented in the legislative assembly this morning by residents against nuclear development in Saskatchewan.
Cathy Holtslander is with the Coalition for a Clean Green Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
She says the petition is asking the government to stop expansion of the province’s nuclear industry and also create a law banning nuclear waste storage.
Holtslander says Manitoba passed legislation banning nuclear waste storage more than twenty years ago.
Premier Brad Wall says that uranium is the only natural resource that is governed by both provincial and federal laws.
Wall says a nuclear waste project would also have to receive federal approval.
