A play scheduled to show on Poundmaker First Nation has been banned.

Deanne Kasokeo wrote an adaptation of the Greek play Antigone to reflect contemporary First Nations political issues.

A news release from director Floyd Favel says the chief and council made a motion to ban the play in a closed meeting.

Kasokeo says the play was well received by audiences in Sakimay and Fort Qu’Appelle, and she’s determined to have the show on Poundmaker.

Poundmaker was involved in an election dispute last summer where two separate elections claimed two chiefs were leading the community.

Kasokeo says most people in the community of 600 realise the play is not about Chief Duane Antoine.

Calls into the band office have so far not been returned.
