Police Confirm Stabbing Death of La Loche Man

Edmonton police are now confirming that the inmate killed at an Edmonton prison earlier this week is 21-year-old Mason Tex Montgrand.
MBC has learned Montgrand is originally from La Loche.
The Correctional Service of Canada says Montgrand was serving a 13-year, six-month sentence for manslaughter, aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement and other charges.
According to the CSC, the sentence commenced in November 2009.
An autopsy took place yesterday, and Edmonton’s Medical Examiner is calling the death a homicide, noting that Montgrand died of multiple stab wounds.
Police say charges are pending against a fellow inmate at the Edmonton Institution.
Montgrand was killed shortly before 8 o’clock Tuesday night during what the Correctional Service of Canada is calling a fight between two inmates.
The investigation continues.
