Premier Visits La Ronge

Premier Brad Wall stopped in La Ronge today and held a meeting with the town’s mayor and council.
Wall says it is not the official start of his summer tour, and he will be back to visit more communities in the north later this summer.
He says roads are a concern across the province this year with hundreds of washouts, and the north is no exception this year.
The provincial NDP has critized his government over the state of the highway into Cumberland House.
Wall says there is nothing to announce right now, but adds that is a situation his government “is paying some very careful attention to right now”.
He is also hinting that northerners might hear something in the not-too-distant future from his government about accessing resources for northern roads.
Wall visited Buffalo Narrows and Pinehouse on Monday.
Pinehouse has formally expressed interest in being a potential site for nuclear waste, but Wall says his government does not support the idea of a nuclear waste storage facility because there doesn’t seem to be much public appetite for it.
However, he says northern communities are free to continue exploring the idea if they wish.
Wall also reiterates that the Saskatchewan Party government is not interested in building a fish processing plant for commercial fishers.
The premier adds that the Opposition’s idea of a royalty review for mining would cause instability in the industry and lead to job losses in the province’s north.
