Prince Albert Police Officers Charged With Assault

Two police officers in Prince Albert have been charged with assault.
At a press conference this morning, local police chief Dale McFee said the two officers had been formerly charged yesterday.
He says the recommendation to charge the pair came from Saskatchewan Justice after two reports were completed into their actions.
According to McFee, the first incident occurred on October 3rd while one of the officers was involved in an altercation that happened while lodging a female suspect.
He says physical force was used, the woman lodged a complaint and the officer was charged.
Police say the second incident occurred on December 31st.
In that case, McFee says the second officer used physical force on a male suspect during an arrest.
McFee says a complaint then came to the attention of police brass and the charge was laid.
Both officers are due in court on May 17th.
At this point, McFee is not revealing their names — but says they have been taken off duty.
The head of the police union in Prince Albert, Sgt. Jason Stonechild, says it’s a tough situation for both officers, but he’s confident a fair process will take place.
Stonechild says Prince Albert has a very unique demographic and a higher-than-normal number of people that get arrested — and with that, incidents will occur.
Police say the two incidents are not connected.
