Ottawa is making adjustments to a federal food-subsidy for isolated communities.

Nutrition North effectively replaced the old food mail program when it came into being last year.

It offers selected communities a subsidy on imports of fresh produce and other things.

However, when it was introduced, foods like bacon and Cheeze Whiz were suddenly bumped off the list of eligible items.

The government says it has expanded the list of foods allowed, and processed foods are back on.

The government says the items will be covered starting April 1st.

According to Indian Affairs, Black Lake, Fond du Lac and Stony Rapids are the only communities in the province eligible for a partial subsidy under the program.
