Program Aims to Help Female Abusers

A program is being developed in Prince Albert to help women who have become abusers.
Angie Bear is one of the outreach workers working on the project.
She explains abusive relationships often involve women being mistreated by their male partners.
However, abuse is a learned behaviour and some women resort to it, in an effort to equalize the situation.
Bear notes that when women are suffering abuse from a partner it’s usually seven or eight times before they’ll call the police.
However, when men are the ones being abused, the police are often called after only two or three incidents because the attack generally involves a weapon.
Bear says the curriculum for the project has already been developed and they’re hoping to start it this year.
