The Saskatchewan government is considering available options for the future of freshwater fishers in the province.
The Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation says it will not be buying fish in the province as of April 1st.
Richard Turkheim of the First Nations and Metis Relations department says the FFMC monopoly was based on an agreement signed with the federal government in 1969.
Turkheim says a government decision on what to do about the future of freshwater fishers in the province is expected in the next several weeks.
He believes if the province decided it step out of the money, an order in council would have to be passed to rescind the involvement in the earlier agreement.
