Reduce Caseload Numbers: Children’s Advocate

The Children’s Advocate says fewer children are living in overcrowded foster homes, but he says more work needs to be done in reducing workers’ caseloads.
Bob Pringle is presenting the second progress report to the government, following a scathing review of the system in 2008.
He says potential homes are not being properly assessed, which can lead to removing children from one unsafe place and putting them in another.
Pringle says many of the problems within the child welfare system are likely linked to social workers having too large of caseloads.
He says the Child Welfare League of Canada recommends a caseload of 12 to 17 families per worker.
That number is 28 to 30 here in Saskatchewan.
