Saulteaux Band Members Elect New Chief

Velma Night is the new chief of the Saulteaux First Nation.

She beat four other candidates during the band’s election Saturday.

One of those candidates was former chief Sarah Gopher.

Incumbent chief Kenny Moccasin didn’t seek re-election.

Five councillors were elected, including incumbent Gary Gopher.

The other four councillors elected are Leo Moccasin, Jr., Michael Houle-Night, Ricky Moccasin and Brent Katcheech.
